On the day of Montenegro's national day, the first expressway in Montenegro's history — Bar-Boljare highway — opened to traffic. Hua Yafang, chargée d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Montenegro, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. President Milo Đukanović and Prime Minister Abazović of Montenegro expressed their gratitude to all workers for their hard work and also praised the high-quality equipment and machines applied in the construction.

XCMG Tunnel roadheader was awarded with "Star Machinery in Montenegro Bar-Boljare Highway Project" during the construction.  Its construction efficiency was greatly praised.

The priority section of the Bar-Boljare Highway in Montenegro is about 41 kilometers long and is constructed by Chinese enterprises. It is the most difficult section in terms of technology and construction in the project with the proportion of bridges and tunnels reaches 60%. XCMG XTR260 boom type tunnel roadheader is responsible for the operation of the project.

XCMG TBM officially entered construction in 2016, when Djukanovic made a special trip to the construction site to watch the tunnel construction process and praised the construction efficiency of XCMG TBM.

XCMG's boom type roadheader replaced initiating explosive devices, which reduced the safety risk. With the support of this equipment, only 2 people, instead of 15 people, are needed to complete all operations for each shift of tunnel excavation.

In addition, the boom type roadheader also greatly reduces the disturbance of surrounding rock, and the average linear overbreak can be reduced from the traditional 20cm to about 5cm. According to statistics, it can save about 350 euros per linear meter of shotcrete cost.

The state television of the Republic of Montenegro made a special interview and report on the tunnel construction. The project management department also sent a special letter of thanks to XCMG. XCMG's roadheader became famous in the first battle of the Bar-Boljare Highway.

In 2013, XCMG successfully developed the first boom type tunnel boring machine XTR260 in China.
