Excavator Tech: Missing Link between Safety and Machine Control

2023-03-22 17:17:46

Leica Geosystems and Xwatch Safety Solutions have collaborated to produce a new 3D Avoidance Zone system for construction sites. The device combines a rated capacity indicator with machine control technology, creating a new level of safety in excavation. The system allows users to create 3D avoidance zones and import them either on the machine or elsewhere within the Leica MC1 machine control software. This provides the operator with the ability to work around the avoidance zones with ease, enabling improved productivity and control across the entire construction site.

Critical avoidance areas such as overhead obstructions like powerlines, underground services, and operations close to footpaths or live carriageways are safeguarded by the new solution. This breakthrough in technology offers a missing link between safety and machine control for excavators, enabling a higher level of autonomy and asset and infrastructure protection for Leica Geosystems’ customers.
