Extreme Cold Challenge: Unmanned Pure-Electric Mining Trucks Pioneering a Zero-Carbon Future

At the Inner Mongolia Huaneng Yimin Open-Pit Mine, the annual temperature difference exceeds 60°C. In December, temperatures have plummeted below -30°C. Amid the snow-covered mining pit, a fleet of a hundred unmanned pure-electric mining trucks is advancing like a "steel tide."
These unmanned pure-electric mining trucks are built with special materials for the frame and cargo structure, and their transmission, hydraulic, and braking systems are optimized for extreme conditions, allowing them to withstand temperatures as low as -40°C. With a battery capacity of 568 kWh, the trucks boast strong endurance. Even in persistently low temperatures, the performance of the vehicle’s three-electric system remains stable. Their robust environmental adaptability ensures the continuity and stability of mining operations during harsh winters, achieving the goal of efficient all-weather operation.
Equipped with a photovoltaic green power system, the unmanned mining trucks can complete a fully automated battery swap in just 6 minutes via mobile swapping stations, completely eliminating "range anxiety" for electric mining trucks. At the Yimin Mine, the fleet of a hundred trucks replaces over 15,000 tons of diesel annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 48,000 tons. The environmental benefits are equivalent to planting 2.18 million trees around the mining area. As the project director at the mine pointed out, the zero-carbon operation model is transforming mines from "energy consumers" into "green factories."

Taking a 6-kilometer haul distance as an example, the fleet of a hundred unmanned pure-electric mining trucks can complete 24.5 million cubic meters of stripping tasks annually, with an operational cost of approximately 6.53 yuan per cubic meter. Compared to the local outsourcing contract rate of 7.02 yuan per cubic meter, the cost advantage is significant. With a daily effective operating time exceeding 22 hours, transportation efficiency surpasses manual operation by over 120%. The fleet reduces the need for 136 drivers, saving 27.2 million yuan in annual labor costs. This clear economic benefit opens a new path for enterprises to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
From the scorching heat of August to the biting cold of December, these vehicles operate year-round, unwavering through the changing seasons. As a global pioneer in zero-carbon smart mining solutions, XCMG provides a comprehensive ecosystem solution integrating "green energy management, green components and technologies, green complete product sets, unmanned operations, and recycling." This is set to lead the global mining industry steadily toward a greener, smarter, and more sustainable future.
