XCMG AGVs Build a Chinese Benchmar for Smart Ports
As a core hub in northern China and a vital gateway for international trade, the intelligent upgrade of Tianjin Port not only underpins regional development but also serves as a critical practice in supporting national strategies and enhancing global economic connectivity.
In 2021, XCMG AGVs were deployed as core equipment at Tianjin Port’s Section C Intelligent Container Terminal, playing an indispensable role in building the world’s first “smart and zero-carbon” terminal.
Equipped with integrated cutting-edge technologies, XCMG AGVs are capable of 24/7 operation in complex and dynamic port environments. They perform precise obstacle avoidance, smooth detours, and intelligent speed adjustments, achieving centimeter-level docking accuracy and seamlessly coordinating operations among quay cranes, yard cranes, and storage yards.
Since deployment, XCMG has continuously optimized AGV cluster control algorithms and scheduling strategies, setting new records for smart port operations. To date, nearly 100 XCMG AGVs have been operating stably at scale in Tianjin Port, handling over one million TEUs cumulatively and helping reduce overall port operating costs by more than 30%.
Today, Tianjin Port has transformed into an unmanned, intelligent, and green modern logistics hub. Leveraging big data platforms, the AGVs enable real-time monitoring and intelligent analysis of operational status and energy consumption, consistently improving overall operational efficiency and equipment utilization.
In recent years, XCMG has advanced its strategy of “intelligent transformation, digitalization, and connectivity,” deeply integrating IoT, big data, and AI technologies with high-end manufacturing to build an open, collaborative, and innovative smart logistics ecosystem. Building on the success at Tianjin Port, XCMG’s smart logistics solutions are being rapidly deployed across key logistics nodes nationwide.
In large-scale sea-rail intermodal scenarios in Shandong, multiple AGVs operate in synergy, reducing per-container handling and transportation costs by 10% and increasing transfer efficiency by 25%. At land ports in southwestern China, the innovative “AGV + reach stacker” collaborative model significantly enhances cross-border customs clearance efficiency.
XCMG is driving the development of new quality productive forces for national strategies with intelligent equipment at the core.
