China-based XCMG has unveiled its plans to achieve sustainability, including reducing the carbon footprint of key products, such as cranes and excavators, by 32% by 2035 compared to 2020 levels. The company's action plan for peak carbon and carbon neutrality outlines its approach to building a green value chain with low-carbon and intelligent construction machinery solutions through technology, manufacturing, service, and operation management. The company aims to achieve this through a program of action, which specifies the planning, implementation, and safeguard measures of sustainable transformation paths.

XCMG has also set other targets in its plan, such as aiming to generate 50% of its total electricity use from renewable energies by 2035, while product penetration of new energy products will exceed 35%. The company expects to grow renewable energy sources such as self-generating photovoltaic power and wind power seven-fold, and for market penetration of new energy products to reach 25%. In the short term, the company aims to reduce energy consumption per unit by 15% and carbon emissions by 26% by the end of 2025, compared with 2020.

The company has made progress towards its goals, having developed over 50 items of green, energy-saving core technologies and built production clusters of new energy and low-carbon products. XCMG also intends to reach peak carbon within its operation boundaries by 2027, reducing energy consumption per unit by 18% and carbon emissions per unit output by 31% compared to 2020. The company is committed to becoming carbon neutral within its operation boundaries by 2049, highlighting its determination to take significant steps towards achieving sustainability in the construction industry.
